The story behind Studio Dengate, and a love of making houses feel like home.
Every home has a story, and we thought it was only fitting that we begin by sharing a little of ours.
I'm Ange, and together with my husband and best friend, Luke, we're the faces behind Studio Dengate.
I've always had a bit of a love affair with design.
Not just beautiful furniture, considered interiors or perfectly styled rooms, but the way a space makes you feel.
I'm endlessly inspired by the places we visit. The homes we step inside, the hotels we stay in, the restaurants where we linger a little longer than planned. I'm forever taking mental notes — the warmth of the lighting, the texture of a wall, an unexpected colour combination, or the way a room seems to wrap itself around you.
I notice everything. And I love every minute of it.
For me, design has never been about following trends or creating something simply because it looks beautiful in a photograph. It's about atmosphere, comfort, character and that wonderful, almost indescribable feeling of walking into a space and knowing you want to stay a while.
And then there's Luke.
My best friend, my sounding board, and the wonderfully practical mind behind so many of my ideas.
Luke is a carpenter by trade, with a natural understanding of how things work and an incredible ability to bring a vision to life. While I'm busy imagining what a space could become, he's already thinking about how we're going to make it happen.
We've spent years renovating, creating and reimagining homes together. There have been plenty of big ideas, late-night conversations, changes of plans and moments where we've stood in the middle of a room wondering what on earth we've gotten ourselves into.
But somewhere along the way, we realised that what we loved doing together could become something more.
And so, Studio Dengate was born.
A little design studio built on two very different but beautifully complementary strengths — a love of thoughtful interiors and an appreciation for good, honest craftsmanship.
We believe that beautiful design shouldn't be reserved for grand homes or enormous budgets. Some of the most wonderful spaces begin with an ordinary house, a little imagination and someone who can see its potential.
A home doesn't need to be perfect to be beautiful.
It should feel collected rather than decorated. Comfortable rather than precious. A place where old and new sit happily alongside one another, where every detail has been considered but nothing feels too considered.
Above all, it should feel like you.
Through Studio Dengate, we hope to help others discover that feeling in their own homes, whether it's reimagining a single room, planning a renovation or creating something entirely new.
And here, in our little corner of the internet, we'll be sharing the things we love most. Beautiful spaces, renovation stories, design inspiration, lessons learned along the way and perhaps a few glimpses into life behind the studio.
We're at the beginning of something very special to us, and it means so much to have you here.
